Genus stachyurus are small deciduous trees with simple ovate leaves and stiffly pendent racemes of small bell shaped pale yellow flowers in late winter and early spring. In late winter to early spring they will open flower buds into small bell shaped yellow flowers. Prized for its unique winter blooms stachyurus praecox is a spreading large deciduous shrub of great winter beauty.
