Vaccinium ovatum can grow in either sun or shade and is tolerant of salt spray. Huckleberries are perennial shrubs about 2 to 3 feet 60 91 m tall when grown in full sun but may become 10 feet 3 m or more when grown in shade conditions most are deciduous but some are evergreen. The evergreen huckleberry is often overlooked by home gardeners but it has many attractive qualities.

Along the coast of california it is common to the redwoods but sporadic further south. Evergreen huckleberry is found on the west side of the cascade mountains from british columbia to california. Does not transplant well but can be grown easily from smaller.

Part shade shade. It is surprising we do not grow this shrub more often in the pacific northwest. New leaves are bronze to red in color and mature into a glossy green through the summer months.
